Warning Signs

"Many saints and prophets have said that God Himself will give a final warning, allowing each soul to see itself in God’s eyes, precious yet marred by the darkness of sin."

Such powerful readings today! Jeremiah proclaims God’s coming judgment and is denounced by all. Yet, he trusts that God will prevail against those who seek his life, leaving his enemies stumbling in confusion. The psalmist has also become an outcast for proclaiming God’s word and defending His Holy Name, but he trusts in God to protect him and hear his prayers. St. Paul speaks of the reign of sin and death, yet he proclaims that the grace of God and the death of Christ has conquered all evil and overcome death itself.

Finally, Jesus Himself tells the disciples not to fear those who threaten, denounce, and try to kill them, as they killed the prophets from the beginning even to our own times, because God sees and knows all. All that is concealed in the darkness, all the dark secrets of sin, will be revealed in the light of God’s truth. Those who acknowledge God, trying to do His will and speak His word, will find eternal life, the life that matters in God’s eyes. Each life is precious and beloved to God, and each soul is of limitless value. God calls to every person, each one beloved, each one created for a purpose: to know Him, love Him and serve Him on this earth and find eternal joy in His presence in the next life.

God loves us but He also gives us free will. He will not force us to acknowledge Him. And if we deny Him, He will deny us. If we sin – and we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God – it’s up to each of us to turn to God in repentance and ask His mercy.

Many saints and prophets have said that God Himself will give a final warning, allowing each soul to see itself in God’s eyes, precious yet marred by the darkness of sin. Yet, we must not delay until the last minute. Now is the time of mercy, and the day is far spent. Let each of us turn to the Lord today and ask His forgiveness, for we are all “poor and in bonds” and only His mercy can free us in the end.
